Great to see community groups getting together to ensure the best of our city.

Over 2 years the council has repeatedly not answered the questions and hides behind hidden document secret meetings.

Chapter Three: W.A. Inc.: Why Didn’t We Hear The Alarm Bells?

Premier is quoted as it smells like WA Inc., when further questioned, doesn’t deny but give a “no comment”
That tells story’s by its self.
I wonder if they would risk moving a government department to a place where there is such controversy and community concerns.

They have a government election around the corner supporting a council led project that has potential blow MILLIONS of $$$$$$$$ of rate payers, money??

Why does the Mayor push so hard for the Sirona deal to go through surely if they come to Freo anywhere is a bonus???

What does the Fremantles Mayor Brad Pettitt have to gain driving this one deal, that risks so much of Fremantles financial future??
Is it just ego?
We have seen a past mayor call it lunacy.
A sitting Premier compare it with WA Inc.
Two financial specialists working in in big business question the basic business financial soundness of the citys Business Plan.
# community groups that have run multiple community events to inform the residents and rate Payers.

All this and the Brad train just blunders on clearly he could not care less about about public concerns the very people they was swore to represent.

When questions are raised on the Mayors blog it been claimed edits or deletes them, bloggers have to post to other sites, only then it seems the Mayor will post the questions, while never answering whats asked but spinning to another angle. I have had similar issues in the past myself, others now coming out with the same claims. Its why i stopped reading it, just another promo blog.

More pie in the sky spin from our Mayor Brad Pettitt

How many decades before such infrastructure could be built and with Fremantle’s geographical  location would it ever warrant such a development for the cruise ship industry, the state gov would need to get commitment from the cruise industry before developing such a place, to ensure it just didn’t become unused infrastructure.
Barnett has already said live export would move to the outer harbour once its built. So why is bringing this into his discussion as its moving anyway.

No need to move the car off load for RORO and double the distance for cars to be delivered to car yards, just make this part of the development.

The picture attached of Broadwater is hardly a good comparison as this area of the gold coast is all estuaries, mariners, beaches, residential development, leisure activities parks etc.

Not what fremantle harbour is, being active cargo port, narrow river mouth surrounded by concrete.


What escapes the Mayors grasp of reality or suits his latest agenda is without a proper road network how will the thousands of guests and crew, new residences, workers get in and out of the city area in a efficient manner.
He and his council have made our road system into a dogs breakfast with their Anti-car platform.
Not to mention he needs to remove the rail out of the way, as this will also be a problem for development of residential apartments with trains riding down the side of it with heavy freight rail at night. Which would just create another problem.

  • Opens the north side of Freo up to more residential use and provides better access PT to new residents,
  • Opens north Freo back to the beach fronts,
  • Slashes traffic movements down Stirling Hwy
  • Cuts traffic of South st
  • Diverts, trucks off Hampton road heading south or north
  • Removes passengers vehicles from Fremantle who are only driving through to get somewhere else.
  • Opens up poor used land for better use in the north port side
  • Brings back a village feel to the Tydeman road precinct, well till Sullivans try’s to approve a 15 story building for it.
  • Lowers noise pollution
  • Makes our local roads safer
  • Lowers emissions to the local area, by taking away the stop start of heavy vehicles making them more efficient.
  • Opens up the heavy freight line running south of Freo back to PT (Public Tranport), linking the new developing suburbs to the rail stations, with rail cutting the need for people to park and ride in town.
  • Giving space for more cycle and pedestrian ways.
  • Opens the possibility to link the north lines PT rail to Freo in a circle line opening up direct PT rail to Cockburn and the Mandurah line also allowing a rail service with one change to the hospital and Murdoch.
  • All while keeping an operational port in town.
  • Improving Freo’s Green space and lowering the amount of concrete surface our council loves so much.

In case it’s escaped his attention the outer harbour is not planned to replace Fremantle port but be a spill over once Freo harbour/port reaches a cap which is higher than its current container movements right now.

Which will put more freight on rail without increasing the % moved on rail and will bring more container Trucks to our suburb as he was against the infrastructure that would have removed them. Being the PFL, Roe 8 or Roe 9 or which ever way its portrayed.

So too add to the congestion he proposed thousands more to come to work, in the city and more visitors while he wants NO new roads, while increasing freight rail through town, creating More division and social problems and less car parking.

Sounds like a recipe for disaster, but at least we have a rapid charging point for EV in town and guaranteed you can get pissed at a noisy concert right in the centre of a what was a quiet historic area of town, now  heavily used for residential.

Maybe that’s the plan with J-shed if the noise is loud enough from his approved, piss up concerts, it may drown out the noise from the trains.

Oh and Paul I think this is offering a solution while disagreeing with another POV, just in case you missed that point again.

Bond in the road for Roe 8 mates/ Fremantle Gazette

Interesting Article from the Fremantle Gazette exposing more reports that are kept from public view covering the impact of Not building the PFL or the Roe 8 & 9’s

Sadly this project, while able to lessen many stresses on our urban road networks, this issue has become highly politicized and the real benefits and negatives have been lost to small groups of individuals fear mongering the local communitys so no rational community discussion has actually been held to discuss the pros and cons and allow locals to have a balance thought without the hate and fear elements so commonly found in these issues.

PORTELLI BITTER ON SHELVING

BIBRA LAKE COCKBURN councillor Steve Portelli has joined with Melville Mayor Russell Aubrey to highlight the additional congestion and environmental consequences of shelving Roe 8, believing his own council is ignoring the findings of a traffic study which point toward a need for the road.

An independent traffic study commissioned by the City of Cockburn forecasts 35 stretches of road will need to be widened by 2031 to cope with the increase in daily vehicle movements in both Melville and Cockburn if Roe 8 is not built.

“It has got to the stage now that I am so frustrated and disappointed with the stalling of Roe 8 that I had to speak to someone that is for it,” Cr Portelli said.

“We have to get a strategy together and get the word out there because the community has been misled.

“Roe 8 is not just about diverting traffic away from South Street and Leach Highway but also from Cockburn’s east-west linking roads such as Farrington Road, Bibra Drive, Berrigan Drive, Russell Road, North Lake Road and Beeliar Drive.

“Close to 80,000 daily traffic movements will be taken away from those roads and out of our residential suburbs.”

Both Cr Aubrey and Cr Portelli believe that constructing a new outer harbour in Cockburn Sound, the alternative preferred by Cockburn council, will prove more environmentally damaging than Roe 8 itself.

“When you look at the impact on the environmental areas surrounding the roads that would need to be widened – and take into account the impact on the houses that abut those roads – you see that the aggregated environmental cost of not building Roe Highway is far greater than the cost of building it,” Cr Aubrey said.

“On top of that, residents will be stuck in congested traffic in perpetuity, with no other viable way of getting out of the situation.

“Certainly building the outer harbour will alleviate the trucks which is dangerous traffic to be mixed with light traffic but the fact is what we are looking at is getting 80,000 vehicles off our roads altogether with the construction of Roe Highway, compared to just 5000 trucks that would be moved to the outer harbour.”

To generate any form of power has a down side, perhaps hydro is the cleanest of them all.

For sure coal has its issues which makes you wonder why anyone would push EV when the mass of electricity is generated by coal mad power, seems counter productive.

While I have nothing against solar i have them on my own roof it still has some disturbing  issues coming in the future.

ut even as Tesla’s batteries promise to reduce tailpipe emissions, more direct environmental concerns surround the current boom in lithium-ion batteries. As hundreds of thousands more of these batteries hit the market, the problems that come with lithium mining, battery lifecycles and recycling loom large.

In a 2013 report, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Design for the Environment program concluded that batteries using nickel and cobalt, like lithium-ion batteries, have the “highest potential for environmental impacts”. It cited negative consequences like mining, global warming, environmental pollution and human health impacts.

Aplace where Western Countries abuse 3rd world countries to develop, mine and process toxic products to give themselves a green image.

Weiss’ research focuses on trace gases like nitrogen trifluoride, or NF3, a greenhouse gas 17,000 times more potent than carbon dioxide. NF3 is commonly used in the manufacture of electronics and some solar panels. The gas is confined but a fraction often escapes during the process. In October, Weiss and other scientists found NF3 levels were increasing at 11 percent each year, although the cause is unclear. Production of some other panels involves another gas called sulfur hexafluoride — the most potent greenhouse gas known to science.

Dark Side of the Electric Car

There is a darker side to owning an electric car, and it has everything to do with where you live, drive and, most importantly, charge your car. Certainly, an electric car motor does not run on gas, but the electricity used to charge the car does not appear from thin air, either. The electricity that powers homes, professional spaces, power lines and telecommunications structures comes from an electricity-generating power plants. These may run on everything from wind turbines to natural gas to fossil fuel, and the latter is the largest electricity source in the United States.

Study finds EVs More Polluting Than Gas or Diesel Powerplants

According to The Norwegian University of Science and Technology, the environmental ramifications of EVs from well to wheel are significant. The study took into account all factors along the lifecycle of an electric vehicle, from the toxic battery ingredients like nickel and copper to the energy sources which power the grids that ultimately charge the cars’ batteries. “The global warming potential from electric vehicle production is about twice that of conventional vehicles,” one part of the study concludes, indicating that energy developed from lignite, coal, or heavy oil combustion makes it “counterproductive to promote electric vehicles.”

Its not quite as simple as our Mayor in Fremantle makes out, generally his electrics cars bring some good measure of Carbon + to our country while leaving toxic waste lands in 3rd world countries.

For me that just exploitation.

 

Fremantle Councillor Drive To Kill Off Local Business and Jobs

Lets look at the practicality of banning Trucks from Hampton Rd. Its Fremantle’s councils answer for everything ban, ban, ban.

All businesses west of Hampton Rd would be impacted with deliveries or operations that require trucks

The average brewery trucks are longer than a 20ft container truck, so that would make it quite difficult for pubs to get supplies.

No petrol for petrol stations west of Hampton Rd

I wonder how fishing boat harbour would function with no truck deliveries.

How would cruise ships get stores or deliveries on in Victoria Quay.

I guess that would make Little Creatures operations near impossible, no deliveries for them.

The council had an opportunity to redirect trucks off Hampton Rd by engaging with the state government to ensure that the Perth Freight Link did this function, leaving Hampton Rd only for necessary deliveries by trucks not through truck traffic. I guess they choose to not to ensure a good outcome for Freo.

Sadly as they are anti-car, anti-truck, anti road development they are also, anti business, anti jobs, anti development. You can’t have basic water front businesses that cant get deliveries. I guess this will make it difficult for businesses to move into Freo as they don’t know what our loony council will ban next. Bit hard to establish a business future with such instability.

Do they really think that they will be able to do all the development in Fremantle and ban containers at the same time.

I wonder how their events will run without containers?

When I drive down Hampton road the fastest traveling vehicles flying down the road are buses, trucks are stuck in the single congested lane with all the cars. the close calls I’ve seen for cyclists are the buses trying to overtake the bike riders without enough room for it when other vehicles are along side the bus.

You really wonder why a city ward councillor is trying to get traffic lights in Henderson, miles from Fremantles borders, this is the issue with many Fremantle councillors ,their constant meddling in others a fares, if they just stuck to relevant Fremantle issues which is what they are paid and there for.

Perhaps the real reason and timing for this story  is just another attempt by a councillor who has rarely been seen around town by the residents and ratepayers of the city ward, to get her profile out there for election time. Pretty sad a couple of months of community engagement ever 4 years.

Even sadder it must have been a slow news day for the herald to put his story on the front page of their paper, a rehashed idea that has been going on for 20 yrs plus, and the best the Councillor is promising is to lead a petition??? There is a reason its never been done, as with out a replacement route its a stupid impractical idea that shows little sense of the practicalities of life, business or common sense.

As a business and job killer its a great way to go. Fremantle already has a shocking reputation with delivery drivers as a place not to go to, business in town don’t need anymore challenges or extra costs.

What’s not surprising is this councillor Rachel Pemberton has spent her whole time saying what she is going to do, what she wants, I haven’t yet seen the action of representation, it seems to be all about her and what she wants.
