FREMANTLE LIGHTRAIL NOT A PIPE DREAM, it could be a nightmare for locals residents and businesses

Will this be a bigger impact on the fremantle community, than roe 9 tunnel??????????

Fremantle residents need to ensure they ask Fremantle council the right questions with our politically motivated ideological driven council on the drive for their latest scenario.

This would appear to make Fremantle Councils light rail more destructive to Fremantle than the Roe 9 tunnel.  All the verge trees and many in peoples front yards would need to be cut down, or cleared to make way for Rachel’s Pemberton’s Light Rail Future.

  • How many families would have their  homes on South St impacted?
  • How many businesses would need to knocked down to make way for the new rail line?
  • How much of their blocks will be reclaimed for the new verges area?
  • All the big pine trees on South St before Carrington St would need to go.
  • About 80 trees between Carrington St and Stock St would need to go.
  • The impact east of Stock Rd could also be huge if over head power is needed, with many old large trees could over hang the power system.
  • How will this effect the value of all homes along South St especially those close to road with added rail noise and vibration. Wheel squeal and flanging noise are often causes of annoyance to residents as the high pitch screeching is mainly found at the high frequency end of the human audible noise spectrum?
  • Now its been made so public will real estate agents now have to warn prospective buyers of the developments the council is driving for.
  • Now the Councillor has come out and spoken about it so publicly, what impact could this have on Trans Perth not prioritizing new bus routes or possible rapid bus transit lanes, which TP development speaks of?
  • The months of turmoil on people and businesses while South St is dug up and the new infrastructure is put in place?
  • Worse, no road reserve is noted for the final leg to Fremantle, so who’s street could it drive through and what is the impact on loss of homes and businesses to for fill their ideology? Leaving years of uncertainly for local families
  • This is just the start of the questions of the impact that such a project could have.
  • Will council make this projects impact clear to all residents and businesses impacted by their new rail line before the next election, or will this get another dose of spin, smoke and mirrors.
  • Would Roe 9 have removed many vehicles off south st if council had engaged in a positive contribution to this project instead of the negative one
  • Is this just another council drive to lift the R zoning, killing off our urban canopy and adding to their anti-car campaign.

The devastation on an old established suburb will be huge by driving a light rail system through these old heritage area.

How many decades before such infrastructure could be built and with Fremantle’s geographical  location would it ever warrant such a development for the cruise ship industry, the state gov would need to get commitment from the cruise industry before developing such a place, to ensure it just didn’t become unused infrastructure.
Barnett has already said live export would move to the outer harbour once its built. So why is bringing this into his discussion as its moving anyway.

No need to move the car off load for RORO and double the distance for cars to be delivered to car yards, just make this part of the development.

The picture attached of Broadwater is hardly a good comparison as this area of the gold coast is all estuaries, mariners, beaches, residential development, leisure activities parks etc.

Not what fremantle harbour is, being active cargo port, narrow river mouth surrounded by concrete.


What escapes the Mayors grasp of reality or suits his latest agenda is without a proper road network how will the thousands of guests and crew, new residences, workers get in and out of the city area in a efficient manner.
He and his council have made our road system into a dogs breakfast with their Anti-car platform.
Not to mention he needs to remove the rail out of the way, as this will also be a problem for development of residential apartments with trains riding down the side of it with heavy freight rail at night. Which would just create another problem.

  • Sorts out the traffic problems,
  • Opens the north side of Freo up to more residential use and provides better access PT to new residents,
  • Opens north Freo back to the beach fronts,
  • Slashes traffic movements down Stirling Hwy
  • Cuts traffic of South st
  • Diverts, trucks off Hampton road heading south or north
  • Removes passengers vehicles from Fremantle who are only driving through to get somewhere else.
  • Opens up poor used land for better use in the north port side
  • Brings back a village feel to the Tydeman road precinct, well till Sullivans try’s to approve a 15 story building for it.
  • Lowers noise pollution
  • Makes our local roads safer
  • Lowers emissions to the local area, by taking away the stop start of heavy vehicles making them more efficient.
  • Opens up the heavy freight line running south of Freo back to PT (Public Tranport), linking the new developing suburbs to the rail stations, with rail cutting the need for people to park and ride in town.
  • Giving space for more cycle and pedestrian ways.
  • Opens the possibility to link the north lines PT rail to Freo in a circle line opening up direct PT rail to Cockburn and the Mandurah line also allowing a rail service with one change to the hospital and Murdoch.
  • All while keeping an operational port in town.
  • Improving Freo’s Green space and lowering the amount of concrete surface our council loves so much.

In case it’s escaped his attention the outer harbour is not planned to replace Fremantle port but be a spill over once Freo harbour/port reaches a cap which is higher than its current container movements right now.

Which will put more freight on rail without increasing the % moved on rail and will bring more container Trucks to our suburb as he was against the infrastructure that would have removed them. Being the PFL, Roe 8 or Roe 9 or which ever way its portrayed.

So too add to the congestion he proposed thousands more to come to work, in the city and more visitors while he wants NO new roads, while increasing freight rail through town, creating More division and social problems and less car parking.

Sounds like a recipe for disaster, but at least we have a rapid charging point for EV in town and guaranteed you can get pissed at a noisy concert right in the centre of a what was a quiet historic area of town, now  heavily used for residential.

Maybe that’s the plan with J-shed if the noise is loud enough from his approved, piss up concerts, it may drown out the noise from the trains.

Oh and Paul I think this is offering a solution while disagreeing with another POV, just in case you missed that point again.

HUGE URBAN DEVELOPMENT POTENTIAL FOR FREMANTLE | Freo’s View

My thoughts on Roel post on his blog, my family live in this area so i think i have quite a good understanding of what locals think, i don’t know anyone who owns there own home in the area that wants high density or large apartment blocks. the area has been plagued with anti-social issues, drug dealing and petty crime and vandalism. History from the world tells us that the higher the density the worse the problem. We have a council that drives this high density but as best i know most of them live in houses with yards, garages, drive ways etc, not the they preach how everyone should live.

Roel the community in Blinco St are galready up in-arms about development just across the road as their homes/houses where getting two story in front of them. Not to mention the street already has huge parking issues. So how you think that 8 stories is OK I have no idea.

The area has a mountain of homes West housing just up the street, just over in Beaconsfield is a whole lot more, known as the Beacy Broncs, also well known for massive police raids and a continually hot bed of trouble, petty crime home invasions, vandalism graffiti and intimation to those who call the authorities to complain. Across the road on the northern side of High St is a heap more.

Just up the Hill from this area going East, they have over a couple of years homes demolished, Homes West houses, which were also well known for drug dealing hot spots and domestic violence.

I was standing alongside Steve Grant when he took the photo at this community group meeting, 6 or 7 mins walk from the place your article is referring too. Again lots of promises at the this meeting about actions the council was going to take, (possibly as it was just before an election) now the election has past, action seems pretty much nothing on the  issue.

Fremantle already has a higher than average % of homes west than the average suburb and needs no more. Just 2 weeks ago we see cars torched at the cold store area as drug dealing issues come to the front in homes west houses again.

We shouldn’t even need to mention the traffic issues in the area as both High St and Stevens St have traffic issue leaving the valley on Steven St at both ends is already dangerous with dumb design on Hampton Rd and the council ignoring a decade of complaints about the other end on Carrington where you have to blindly out onto a major rd.

South St has its own set of problems and the High St intersection with Stirling Hwy is another traffic black spot, well known for accidents and is full of trucks from the port as it’s the major route out.

The local primary school is full, past capacity with transportable units on the school oval. The Kim Beazley site is yet to have single resident move in, which is set to add 100’s more on just one block, in the middle of the mess I have just mentioned

And you think adding thousands on more people into a suburb area in high rises to create future slums is a good idea?

You may not have noticed but people who spend millions on penthouses don’t like the idea of a possible drug dealer or meth lab on the ground floor under their penthouse, having to rely on the roll of the dice you get from homes west.

High density in this area would be a disastrous outcome for what was another leafy green suburb, rapidly being destroyed by a political motivated councils density drive which is destroying our tree canopy and massively increasing our urban heat sink

I have been to places our Mayor  Brad Pettitt wants to mimic like Malmo, I have friends from there and outlaying districts all have seen their amenity deteriorating, as Malmö has become a centre for crime, violence, drug dealing and organized crime.

Not exactly what I would like to see copied into Freo we have enough shit as it is.

A private security company now patrols a complex dubbed the Fremantle slum as two residents remain.

We have on the cnr, of High St and Stirling Hwy another squatters setup what are the council the police and the owners of the building doing about this, its unacceptable for this to continue.

Gary Gray takes the fall for Fremantle’s Union Queens

Rockingham’s Labor stalwart and Shadow Minister for Resources is having his Parliamentary career targeted by a concerted attack by the MUA/CFMEU Super Union and United Voice.

 

It seems an unlikely fate for an articulate warrior that has been such an asset to the ALP brand and a heart on his sleeve Labor man.

 

Gary Gray’s problems come from his refusal to sign the candidate’s pledge which dictates obedience to the State Secretary and the Campaign Director in campaigning for the office. Incredibly they use the actual work obey, not discuss or co-operate but O-B-E-Y OBEY. I haven’t met one Fremantle female who would allow that stipulation in their marriage contract let alone a work agreement. Clive Palmer could only dream of dictation.

 

The document is quite emphatic going on to request “I will act as the State Secretary and the Campaign Director direct me in carrying out my duties.” It begs the question, why would anybody sign such a document? And why when you are on the Federal executive, when you should be democratically voting in the interests of the people are you beholden to the State Secretary – (The Great Leader). In that situation anything could feasibly happen, a fair and just person the likes perhaps of a Simon Crean, Kim Beazley or Martin Ferguson could be replaced by any wild card. Do we really want to inadvertently endorse the views of a Joe McDonald or Dave Noonan whilst voting for the wholesome appeal of Mel Parke.

 

In the lead-up to the last Federal Election the Fremantle Herald graciously ran an article by myself urging the Browse Basin gas reserves to be processed onshore and the unprecedented billion dollar royalties to be spent on indigenous prosperity. LABOR LOSES BLUE. The project has subsequently gone offshore and state revenue lost despite a die hard, desperate and futile fight by Mr C Barnett.

 

I really was not expecting a response mainly because of Fremantle’s ingrained support of indigenous advancement and really what profile do I have? Just another pleb out there in the Valley, it’s the first time I have ever written to a newspaper and I had to check myself, or at least become comfortable with early onset crack-pot-ness.

 

I was truly flattered that none less than the current Minister for Resources and inexplicably Small Business wrote a passionate and reasoned defense. OFFSHORE JOBS A GRAY AREA. It left out any reference to Indigenous royalties, but nonetheless was an informative piece written by somebody with in depth knowledge that gave the public insights to the decision.

 

What was telling however was no comment from the then Fremantle based Minister for International Development Melissa Parke. Whilst the gist is it’s Gray’s area, the article was in The Fremantle Herald not the Rockingham Community News, in the lead up to an election the views of some misguided Liberal hippie are hardly his concern.

 

“I have never give in to bullies and I will not now”. Is Mr Gray’s statement that spiked my interest, because he forcefully seems to be acting upon it. If you are one of the thousands of construction workers who bristles at the totalitarian ‘no ticket no start signs’ or Coles employees who have had their wages traded off by the AWU then you’d be impressed too.

 

Depressingly it’s exactly Mr Gray’s stance on offshore builds that has him in the sights of the cashed up Super Unions wanting to terminate him. These are the same unions that support so generously the Political careers of Ms Parke, McGurk and Ludlum. In an act of Political suicide Gary Gray has pushed the self destruct button by provocatively blacking out parts of his Candidates Pledge, is Rockingham’s Sam Worthington casting for a remake of Jerry McGuire?

 

What would posses such a bespectacled Labor achiever to buck the system so courageously? The answer also lies in his attacks from the Electrical Trade Union. This being the mob that spent millions promoting the lie that Canning Candidate Andrew Hastie and his troops were war criminals and not regular members of the ADF. Perhaps he could not stand the thought of seeing those Anti Chinese Free Trade Agreement billboards parked outside his office and begrudgingly having to accept the laundered campaign money from his Union masters.

 

To add insight into the benefits of the China FTA is exactly the reason we need more politicians like our plucky hero.

 

The ETU’s cherry picked misinformation from the heavy volumes of the ChAFTA is “removes the requirement for mandatory skills assessment for ten occupations including: Electrician (Special Class)…” In isolation it sounds truly scary a little bit like “you have cancer” leave out the ‘but you will still live to 110’ bit and it’s not an accurate statement. The reason requirements like this are in the document goes to the heart of any trade agreement and will always benefit the more sophisticated country.

 

If for example Fiona Wood was sick of her name being tarnished from bad press about Australia’s most impressive hospital and wanted to manufacture her patented plastic skin in China, helping millions around the world and international affection for Team WA, then the only way to do this would be to send the only technicians in the world capable of setting up those miraculous machines. That’s right the Special Class Electricians from good old WA!

 

The ETU and Melissa Parke on the other hand are campaigning tooth and nail for our sons and daughters not to be able to engage with the world. They are saying that these same unique technicians will have to attend China’s version of TAFE and re-do their qualifications in Mandarin, and of course visa versa for the world wanting to bring its innovations here. Would Fremantle resident Ben Elton be forced to attend WAAPA until we thought his humour was properly Australian enough, or would we rather embrace his overseas success.  The rider of course is that the agreement does not affect our immigration or visa policies so the protections have always been in place. I’ll also concede that such complex agreements will never be perfect, but what in life is? Things can always be tweaked, there’s always another election. Where is the thrill of watching our children be challenged and prosper rather than shielded away on a Pacific/Indian Ocean island? Why should our offshore business pioneers live with the fear of their technology and companies being taken from them by unscrupulous Chinese officials?

 

Melissa Parke let Gary Gray publicly defend her from my claims about the benefits of onshore versus offshore Gas Processing, now The MUA, CFMEU, ETU, and Simone McGurk’s United Voice (formerly HSU) have lined up to execute Gary Gray’s political career. With friends like that who needs enemies?

 

Tragic that Gary’s best defence comes from the ALP member in Marrickville NSW. “They (Labor WA) are controlled by a set of left-wing militant unions who seem intent on expelling a politician who, I think, in fairness and speaking in a bipartisan way, has the respect really of all his colleagues within the parliament, including on the government side for the work that he has done as a minister.” Anthony Albanese told reporters in Canberra. And certainly not from his almost hostile Rockingham neighbour Mark McGowan who pointed out that the pledge has not changed in 20 years, great!

 

It’s interesting to see that nobody else seems to feel the confliction that is keeping Gazza up at night, as he pointed out; the state leader did not have to “ride a political horse, which is heading in two directions” like he did. Again it would seem that Ms Parke has no problem galloping along Michelle Payne style on her heavily backed steed.

 

My affection for the maverick Gary is only confused by the thought going through my head as I attended my teenage hero’s book launch at Notre Dame recently, it’s all very good listening to your principled stand on poker machines Peter Garret, but in the end you were a Frontbencher of a Party that owns a hell of a lot of Poker Machines!

 

Similarly Mr Gray you joined a Party that lets the Unions collect money from unwilling workers in the most blatant and aggressive manner whilst running a protection racket with the bosses.

 

If you run with the mob, sooner or later you will get a horse’s head in your bed, one way to stop it going in two directions I suppose.
