FREMANTLE LIGHTRAIL NOT A PIPE DREAM, it could be a nightmare for locals residents and businesses

Will this be a bigger impact on the fremantle community, than roe 9 tunnel??????????

Fremantle residents need to ensure they ask Fremantle council the right questions with our politically motivated ideological driven council on the drive for their latest scenario.

This would appear to make Fremantle Councils light rail more destructive to Fremantle than the Roe 9 tunnel.  All the verge trees and many in peoples front yards would need to be cut down, or cleared to make way for Rachel’s Pemberton’s Light Rail Future.

  • How many families would have their  homes on South St impacted?
  • How many businesses would need to knocked down to make way for the new rail line?
  • How much of their blocks will be reclaimed for the new verges area?
  • All the big pine trees on South St before Carrington St would need to go.
  • About 80 trees between Carrington St and Stock St would need to go.
  • The impact east of Stock Rd could also be huge if over head power is needed, with many old large trees could over hang the power system.
  • How will this effect the value of all homes along South St especially those close to road with added rail noise and vibration. Wheel squeal and flanging noise are often causes of annoyance to residents as the high pitch screeching is mainly found at the high frequency end of the human audible noise spectrum?
  • Now its been made so public will real estate agents now have to warn prospective buyers of the developments the council is driving for.
  • Now the Councillor has come out and spoken about it so publicly, what impact could this have on Trans Perth not prioritizing new bus routes or possible rapid bus transit lanes, which TP development speaks of?
  • The months of turmoil on people and businesses while South St is dug up and the new infrastructure is put in place?
  • Worse, no road reserve is noted for the final leg to Fremantle, so who’s street could it drive through and what is the impact on loss of homes and businesses to for fill their ideology? Leaving years of uncertainly for local families
  • This is just the start of the questions of the impact that such a project could have.
  • Will council make this projects impact clear to all residents and businesses impacted by their new rail line before the next election, or will this get another dose of spin, smoke and mirrors.
  • Would Roe 9 have removed many vehicles off south st if council had engaged in a positive contribution to this project instead of the negative one
  • Is this just another council drive to lift the R zoning, killing off our urban canopy and adding to their anti-car campaign.

The devastation on an old established suburb will be huge by driving a light rail system through these old heritage area.

Peter Goodes Who pays for the infrastructure! Seriously!

Light rail on track for Perth’s south, with route from Murdoch to Fremantle mooted

No Majors for Fremantle

We see in the Herald again the state of Fremantle and its constantly demising situation with business and retail in town.

This week we read in the Herald that Coles is near to the end of its lease.

coles-and-woolies-no-freo-down-down-down-v1

Woolies is already gone, so if Coles goes that will leave Fremantle the second city in W.A. after Perth without  a major supermarket. Possibly the only city in Australia with out a major supermarket, it would be another first for Mayor Brad.

Myers gone for more than 3 yrs and the place is still vacant, Kings Sq business plan keeping the CBD dead, at its heart. Well apart from the drunks and druggies, their dealers, the vagrants, beggars.and all of the rest of the people who seem to form there sadly giving Freo its  anti-social  reputation. This is a big killer for tourism as well. The history side has so much to offer but that is also being destroyed with issues like J-shed, showing the council complete lack of respect for this natural business/tourism draw of the Round House, Fremantle’s history and architecture

This council has seen many major retailers leave the city of the last decade or so.

  • Myer
  • Harvey Norman
  • Spotlight,
  • Dymocks
  • Gloria Jeans
  • Angus & Robertson
  • Thingz Gifts
  • Dick Smith
  • McDonald’s
  •  plus so many other retailers too numerous to list.

COLES NEAR END OF LEASE

WOOLIES EXITS

Fremantle Myer’s $30m makeover will ‘rival’ Claremont Quarter

Here we see the importance the mayor put on keeping Myers,

“Mr Pettit said the Myer building make-over would be the catalyst for the city’s rejuvenation.

“I hope it will really start the rejuvenation of retail in Fremantle as an eclectic centre,” he said.

“It’s looking a bit tired and rundown and in need of a face lift. This will start it off.”

A bit scary if he thought the place was tired and rundown then, what does he think it is now, not to mention the for Lease signs dotted all over the city. Here he see the Myers significance, when they go oh well, we don’t need them they are not so important, 3 yrs later, much bigger impact losing them, seemingly he  just has  no idea and flip flops back forth to which ever situation he finds himself in.

Now we see another icon gone from Freo if Mills leaves. THE FUTURE of one of the oldest record shops in Fremantle is in doubt.

MILLS TO GO?

I would ask when do we think he will wake up to reality, but from this spin doctor, I would say never.

Then we see a letter also in the Herald setting a few facts straight for council on a number of issues, including the fact Freo is dying in Front of them and they are more interested in playing their political games than ensuring Fremantle decline is brought to a halt and it can reestablish its self to its former glory, ie before they started screwing things up

Heres the letter from the herald, Highlight a few bits that people have been saying for years about this Mayor and his Merry band.

Australia Day not about racism
I should like to reply to Councillor Wainwright’s tirade in last week’s Thinking Allowed (“It takes a wilful ignorance,” Herald, September 24 2016).
But first would like to assure Councillor Wainwright that the sting most certainly hasn’t gone out of the debate about the Fremantle council decision to cancel the Australia day celebrations, and take this opportunity to remind him, that he and the other Fremantle Councillors, were elected to serve and represent the residents of Fremantle and not so they had a forum or stage to spout their own politically correct opinions.
How dare this man compare “unfavourably” Australia to other countries who have far-far less liberal views than ours. Despite both Cr Wainwright and Mayor Pettitt’s denials that their decision wasn’t [motivated by] political correctness, the decision to cancel the very popular Australia Day fireworks is of course nothing less than political correctness gone mad.
Despite this council’s claims to have attracted new business to Fremantle, under Mayor Pettitt’s leadership the opposite has been the case with many large retailers, including a cinema and Woolworths, upping stakes and leaving Fremantle, the old Myer building, empty for years, remains empty, with Mayor Pettitt being forced to go cap in hand to the State Government for help in finding a tenant—none of Mayor Pettitt’s boasts about various hotels opening have eventuated. Many old established business have, through lack of trade, been force to close their doors.
The council’s latest decision to cancel Australia Day will do nothing to improve this sad situation, nor will Mayor Pettitt’s claim to replace Australia Day with an “amazing” celebration. The politically correct decision by Fremantle council to cancel the popular Australia Day will not be followed by the rest of the nation because Australia Day is not, never has been, never will be about race or racism: It is a celebration that Aussies of all colours, creeds, religious and political persuasions can, and have, enjoyed for years.
One of the reasons given for cancelling Australia Day was they couldn’t justify spending $130,000 on a firework display, but the council’s decision to spend millions on upgrading/rebuilding the Town Hall seemed to them is perfectly reasonable?
The decision taken by the majority of Fremantle councillors proves beyond doubt that they have not only lost touch with the average Fremantle resident, but have also lost their trust and the only honourable thing for them to do is resign. In this writer’s opinion it’s a shame that we haven’t some kind of financial recourse from these councillors for the damage they have done.
Finally might I suggest if Fremantle council are truly interested in attracting new business and tourists to Fremantle they come out from the plush offices and do something about the drunks, drug takers/sellers and layabouts who are increasingly frequenting our streets.

Many in Freo can see the problems sadly our council is just out of touch.

Another Blow to Freo; Murdoch precinct land released | Fremantle Herald Interactive

What freo councils not good at

Looks like Freo has another blow heading its way if this development takes off.

Easy access to Freeways north and south, Roe Hwy going east. Only congestion going thru or towards Freo.

Naturally council with its mainstream political leaning to labor and the greens direction has blocked  Roe 8 or PFL development. Allowing another newly developing suburb to benefit from easy access to the wider Perth metro network; while Freo languishes in its current dangerous  and  congested streets.

Fremantle Council (COF) blocking such basic infrastructure is ensuring Fremantle is not a designation for many travellers. Why bother with the traffic? Soon we will see Booragoon double in size. Strangely no doubling in residences in the area, it turns out people want to go to buy what that centre offers. Opposed to freo councils plan, is to build in what people don’t want, and cancel things they enjoy look the Australian Day fireworks and parking.

We here constantly dribble online about sterile shopping centres and how bad they are, but that seems to be what the vastly broader community wants, that’s why they are full and freo has the revolving door of retailers.

Now we see east of Freo a new development

“LandCorp is releasing seven large development lots for office, retail and 400 new residences.

The precinct is the first stage of the broader Murdoch Activity Centre, which is expected to provide 35,000 jobs, educational facilities for 44,000 students, and homes for 22,000 people.”

22,000 residence thats about 2/3 of Freo’s current population.

This attractive location and its easy access to  a good road network will be another blow for poor old freo.

Is this to be Fremantle’s Future under its current council?

Where Freo Council is taking our poor city

Apartments, Market Price Shock is it Coming to Freo?

We see lots of development in Freo planned, a lot being driven by policy shifts by council to fulfill their socialists political agendas.

Caution needed in Freo for investment especially with current council, running down Brand Freo, while driving political agenda

We have seen the granny flat move from just that, to these ugly, unsafe container development in our suburbs. Also bringing  with it the 1/2 way house style housing, which will impact the regular housing value in the future, especially with what we see the industry predicting .

FROM GARDEN SUBURB TO GHETTO

HUGE URBAN DEVELOPMENT POTENTIAL FOR FREMANTLE | Freo’s View

“Fremantle already has a higher than average % of homes west than the average suburb and needs no more. Just 2 weeks ago we see cars torched at the cold store area as drug dealing issues come to the front in homes west houses again.”

Australian-attached-house-prices-Q1-2016

The worst is yet to come?

We see council policy pushing for smaller houses, no car parking etc, so when different entities try to manipulate the markets and drive it in a direction the natural capital market would take we see people getting badly caught out. This is a perfect way to build the slums of the future.

We see predictions of 20% drops in value of such developments, meaning people would walk away from deposits and leaving the developer to resell in a crashing market.

Where  we see regular traditional housing prices preforming better and the rural and outer suburbs and developments out preforming the metro areas.

Trying to drive cheap housing into areas with expensive real estate is counter productive, as it will impact the higher net worth properties too.

Council is scared of the market becoming to upmarket as this will kill off their voting base. easy to see their main concern, their own survival?

So we see infill, destruction of our urban canopy what looks like council trying to keep a centralized  voting base, by wrecking what makes our suburbs great.

Sadly the average home owner will only take notice, of the political agenda our council in Freo is running to late; based around the socialist agenda driven by groups like the UN. Who want to dictate to us how we live, where and with whom. Council plans to limit how many cars a family can own. Limit the ratio of the house size you can live in to the land you have to build on. It will not be hard to see why  Fremantle properties  could be hit hard, based on the low level of facilities/options Freo properties will have to offer, thanks to council, when compared to others.

Freo council seems good at working for very small groups, special interests, general supporters I imagine but broadly not so even good  at they poorly engage, the broader public.

Councils driving this small apartments and density it looks like this segment is about to get smashed lets hope, not to many lose their shirts in this crash. One thing for sure I wouldn’t be taking any investment or lifestyle advice from this crowd as, I don’t see many of them living the way the preach others should.

If this is style of development is acceptable to Freo council what else will they do to our suburbs, what will happen to  the most substantial investment most of us will make in yourh lives, what will it be worth after Freo Council is finished downgrading your suburb?

Great to see community groups getting together to ensure the best of our city.

Over 2 years the council has repeatedly not answered the questions and hides behind hidden document secret meetings.

How we see this in yesterdays herald.

Chapter Three: W.A. Inc.: Why Didn’t We Hear The Alarm Bells?

Premier is quoted as it smells like WA Inc., when further questioned, doesn’t deny but give a “no comment”
That tells story’s by its self.
I wonder if they would risk moving a government department to a place where there is such controversy and community concerns.

They have a government election around the corner supporting a council led project that has potential blow MILLIONS of $$$$$$$$ of rate payers, money??

Why does the Mayor push so hard for the Sirona deal to go through surely if they come to Freo anywhere is a bonus???

What does the Fremantles Mayor Brad Pettitt have to gain driving this one deal, that risks so much of Fremantles financial future??
Is it just ego?
We have seen a past mayor call it lunacy.
A sitting Premier compare it with WA Inc.
Two financial specialists working in in big business question the basic business financial soundness of the citys Business Plan.
# community groups that have run multiple community events to inform the residents and rate Payers.
Questions asked in Parliament about it.
Hidden documents by council
Secret meetings
Public attacks on a resident for raising questions on the Business plan.
A minister for local government refusing to investigate, whats he afraid he will find?
A new independent Councillor just entering the council voted against, Brads plan
All this and the Brad train just blunders on clearly he could not care less about about public concerns the very people they was swore to represent.

When questions are raised on the Mayors blog it been claimed edits or deletes them, bloggers have to post to other sites, only then it seems the Mayor will post the questions, while never answering whats asked but spinning to another angle. I have had similar issues in the past myself, others now coming out with the same claims. Its why i stopped reading it, just another promo blog.

Non of this seems very Mayoral
