‘Insensitive mediocrity’ on the rise | Fremantle Herald Interactive

Ever wonder why Fremantle has the constant rate rises on Non mayoral elections years, keep reading

Great piece by John Dowson, straight to the point kicking off with what a waste of rate payer’s money the council ad piece was wrapped around the Fremantle Herald. Its only point was to be self serving.

Cutting to the chase of the Mayors claim of no politics on council, where anyone who watches or takes interest in the CoF, politics is all you can see. Does the Mayor seriously expect anyone to believe that statement.

It seems Fremantle is not the only place state and federal politics are driving councils.

Greens play dirty pool to get Mayor in to Canning?

Cutting to John’s passion the heritage in Fremantle. Anyone questioning the councils lack of care just has to go and stand in front of the our town Hall and see holes in the roofing and plumbing sections, to see the lack of care and respect our town hall has had over the last 10 years. Look up just past the entrance an RHS of the town hall and see bits just waiting to fall off. Their own reports say if the restoration/maintenance work is not done by next winter the damage could be irreparable. Its not even safe to use the flag poles on its roof.

Fremantle Town Hall On Deaths Door

Then this weeks Herald, another great piece for a thinking allowed NO MORE STATUS QUO  bringing together months of issues right through to the 2029 vision the council had, which lacked the real input left by the community.

Sadly community input is only taken into count of if it follows our council group think or ideologies. Which leaves Fremantle’s future with a woeful forecast, when taking into account the recent survey statistics it’s even more worrying. From this report it shows residents are far from happy and at some of its lowest level in this surveys history

You may read on other blogs statements like this but you need to always go to the original source and see what was actually stated.

JOHN DOWSON:  The council’s business plan for King’s Square states, “the project derives a positive net present value to the city (enhancing community wealth)…”.However, independent assessments claim $30 million of community wealth is actually being destroyed.

John Dowson actually stated “However, independent assessments claim $30 million of community wealth is actually being destroyed. Former mayor Tagliaferri called the deal with developer Sirona “crazy” and warned of a Freo Inc-style outcome. “

Kings Square deal ‘crazy’ | Fremantle Herald Interactive

Till now these questions remain unanswered, with council hiding behind secret council meetings called with out proper agendas being posted, but don’t worry this is the council that believes in transparency? This is why we cant see the reports used to justify their $30 million gamble with our funds and assets. The best yet we saw was the Mayors Brad Pettitts & CEO’s thinking allowed which attempted to belittle the resident who raised questions on this Kings Square business promo piece.

Read the articles, look at the surveys on the links above and below & decide for yourself. To me this council looks like 1 step forward two steps back.

Great article by the Herald, keeping this important issue in the public eye where it belongs. Brad this issue will be kept up till we get to the bottom of the issue.

The Kings Square Business Plan is a classic example of lack of governance, no transparency with the hidden documents, and works on the premise of we the council has seen the details, so trust us?

Seriously its amazing the hypocrisy of the council which cries foul with lack of detail from the state government on projects, yet which they find as poor policy from the State government, well COF look in the mirror its exactly what you have done the resident and ratepayers  on numerous occasions,

Kings Square Business Plan

J-sheds work shops

Signal station just recently

McCabe St with the height issues being tabled at Council was not what was represented in the community consultations

The esplanade development

South Beach basket ball court the option on the table is one the one not in the community consultation

Its just goes on and on, poor governance lack of transparency, no representation, the only thing they score well on is being consistent in the lack of concern for true representation for the rate payers and residents.

I have also cut and pasted a great letter to the Herald on the Kings Sq issue and the CEO’s mini series length response to questions raised on the subject, note I said response as I don’t think they answered a single question? If anything dug a hole a little deeper for council as now they seem to be contradicting each other and themselves from statement to statement, must be hard keeping this story straight over the years?

Lets not forget the personal attack launched on a private citizen, for raising a question by the mayor Brad Pettitt and the CEO in the Heralds Thinking Allowed piece. Or a Minister (Tony Simpson) in the liberal government who is not even able to ask questions about issues in his portfolio, showing no interest in the amenity of the rate payers and residents and poor judiciary duty in his office of responsibility

Fremantle Council Mauls Questioning Resident

Rambling response
WHAT a rambling seven page “response” by the City of Fremantle CEO for the still unsatisfactorily answered concerns on the Kings Square business plan figures.
After months of stonewalling, dismissing financial concerns as boring or academic, attacking ratepayers for asking questions, hiding behind confidentiality, and missing-in-action councillors, we still have dodgy assertions the $45 million expenditure on the proposed civic and administrative buildings with minimal income after redevelopment will generate a commercial rate of return.
The CEO is still struggling with the financial concept the $45m building expenditure won’t actually suffer from any depreciation for technological and service obsolescence.
Just ask the CEO and councillors—based on their logic that any building expenditure constantly rises in value, how is it the existing council building has reached its service limit and is now worth demolition value?
Then ask if the financial assertions in the Kings Square business plan make sense.
Craig Ross

Well said Craig, I would love to watch a Councillor try and explain or justify this debacle of a business plan to Craig.

Simple Questions, 4 Fremantle Council, Why No Answers, Where’s the Transparency?

It’s really quite interesting that Mr Lee’s simple questions couldn’t be answered, 1st of all, over 3 months he tried to ask quietly his questions but no answers, off the radar so to speak ?

Then his speaking aloud piece could have simply been addressed by the COF with answers from council, which would have given them an air of transparency, instead of spin, slight of hand or distraction, still no answers, just cheap personal attacks?

Then we hear the Fremantle Society has also been asking questions for years also no answer?

We see in the Mayor & CEO speaking allowed piece again no answers, just what is starting to look like typical COF response of disdain,  that started with factual inaccuracies.

Now we see in Roels Freoview a change in tack he has also acknowledged the COF slight of hand and lack of answers. Lets be clear we all want to see  Freo, develop and progress, as Mr Lees Thinking allowed article in the Herald stated last week. Despite what the underhanded piece from the CoF in the Herald attempted in a pathetic way to distort.

Good to see all the comments or questions from, Jayne, Craig, Mike, Robert, Kel, Diana, Dick, Suzanne, Steve, the Herald, Andrew,Lionel, Paul and Roel etc are keeping the focus and direction without cheap distractions, that the city and councillors attempt to use to divert attention from the real questions and issue’s.

Now we see a whole new level of questions raised by the Herald in their SAMSON REC TO PAY FOR NEW HQ. How long to get answers on that I wonder?

Lets hope this level of public scrutiny remains and even better increases, till we finally have a council that behaves in an open, transparent manner.

  2. Transparency, is the used science, engineering, business, the humanities and in a social context more generally, implies openness, communication, and accountability. Wikipedia

Roel its great to see someone taking an active interest in our city and especially in a sensitive area like our heritage spaces.

If you remember back to last weeks Herald where the where the Mayor Brad and CEO Graeme sign off on an add in the Herald on pg2. of the 14 of Feb 2105 edition.

Where they stated,

Myth 3: Care for public spaces will deteriorate

Our commitment was always to fully maintain all public spaces. We would continue to mow, prune, sweep and water at least to the same standard as you are currently used to. This goes for all the potential new suburbs. To say otherwise has no basis of fact whatsoever
This not even a week after their propaganda piece, if you took a walk around Freo it wouldn’t be hard to come up with dozens of examples like this, you could just start at the Town Hall? Where I believe its not even safe to raise a flag on the Town Hall flag polls due to the poor condition of parts of the roof?
